Top 15 for Three RNRMCA Mountain Bikers Three RNRMCA mountain bikers competed at the final round of the Southern Cross Country (XC) Series in Pippingford (East Sussex) on Sunday 6th September, and all placed high enough to finish the Series in the Top 15 of their respective categories.
Even though Major Andy Plewes got a puncture on the second lap, he managed a top 20 finish in the race, which gave him 7th overall in the XC Series. Major Steve McCulley claimed 14th in the final round and 15th overall. Scot Easter (ex-Marine), now an Associate Member, gave a great performance for 3rd in the Sports’ race and 7th overall in the Series.
The Southern XC Series attracts up to 500 racers at each of its 6 races spread across the South West, South and South East regions. Each race has a slightly different lap-length, although on average a Sport rider would complete 3 laps in approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes and a Masters’ rider would complete 4 laps in approximately 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours. You can earn points from any round, however you must compete in the final round, and your final placing is based upon your best 5 from 6 results. This year the RNRMCA MTBers saw racing action in Bordon, Ringwood, Pippingford (twice – different courses), Devizes and Alton, with the Southern XC Champs (a stand-alone race) doubling at Alton with a Series’ race.
The intrepid trio are now focusing on the final round of the British Mountain Bike Series, which will take place at Newnham (Plymouth) on 26/27th September. We wish them luck…
