Wind, rain and mist did not dampen the spirits of the 31 starters at the RNRMCA 2 stage Hill Climb that took place around Princetown, Dartmoor, taking in some famous climbs like Peak and Pork Hills.  With a total of just over 8 miles of racing and at least 6 of those ascending, it was always going to be a tough day, however at least the tail wind accounted for some very fast times

Race Report
Wind, rain and mist did not dampen the spirits of the 31 starters at the RNRMCA 2 stage Hill Climb that took place around Princetown, Dartmoor, taking in some famous climbs like Peak and Pork Hills.  With a total of just over 8 miles of racing and at least 6 of those ascending, it was always going to be a tough day, however at least the tail wind accounted for some very fast times and none more so than Triathlete Richard Oram (Guerciotti-jjcoach.com) who made it look fairly easy to take his first open win. Lee Sanderson (RNRMCA) showed that last weekends runner up spot to James Dobbin in the Mid-Devon CC Haytor HC was no fluke as he again grabbed a runner up spot for the second consecutive week some 32 seconds down on Oram over the 2 stage aggregate.  Garry Pike (Alltrax) posted the fastest split over Stage 2 to finish just one second down on Sanderson in 3rd overall.  17 year old Jack Baker (Mid-Devon CC) turned in a great performance to finish 4th overall and also take the Junior U18 category from his 16 year old team mate Tom Dracup.  Terence Leonard (St Budeaux CC) always seems to go better on the hills than on the flat and recorded the 2nd fastest Vet time of the day by taking the Over 50’s, with Andrew Hitchens (Mid-Devon CC) taking the 40-49 category. Comeback rider Adam Holmes (Mid-Devon CC) ensured his recent return to racing helped team mates Baker and Hitchens of Mid-Devon CC to take the team honours from the hosts, the RNRMCA.  The event also incorporated the RNRMCA Hill Climb Champs, with Sanderson taking his first evr Navy title from the evergreen Jerry Bromyard.  A special note of praise must also go to Debbie Hancock (Yogi) the sole female competitor and Tom Green (Mid-Devon CC) who at only 13 put in a sterling performance.
