Mountain Mayhem 2008

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Mountain Bike Team put in a great performance at this years Mountain Mayhem 24Hr race to finish a very creditable 19th out of 246 teams in their class and 39th overall.

Conditions for the “Le Mans” style start of the race were good and saw Surg Lt Al Lovell come in high in the order to start his first lap on the bike.  He was followed by Major Andy Plewes and thereafter by PO Si Parker and Lt Cdr Willie Milne.  Each of the riders enjoying the dry trail conditions and the technical challenges of the Eastnor Castle course.

However this did not last and as the day wore on the weather deteriorated.  Conditions were pretty horrific through the night but Sunday morning brought warm sunshine and a lovely fast dry track, even if the wind meant the riders had to dodge flying tents!

As the 2 o’clock finish time drew nearer it was the job of Si Parker to bring the team in with the 23rd and last lap.  Afterwards the team were tired, but satisfied with a job well done.   Many thanks must go to the RNRM Sports Lottery and Lt Cdr Bob Dunkley for their continued support.
