| RNRMCA Riders Awarded Colours at AGM |
|
|
Following another successful season with RNRMCA riders taking awards throughout the cycling sphere recognition of individual merit has been given to 2 riders who excelled in their individual disciplines. 2007 saw the inception of a colours scheme for RNRMCA whereby riders who give "outstanding contribution to RNRM cycling" are rewarded by award of this prestigious recognition. Nominations for awards were received by the executive committee who had little hesitation in approving those for the following riders:-
Andy Plewes
A stalwart for several seasons Andy remains one of the clubs most prolific mountain bike riders. His acheivements in 2008 add to an already growing list of honours acheived in the arena of services sport and include the following. "In the Masters category of the 2008 Combined Services Cross Country Mountain Bike Series Maj Plewes retained his title for a third year running winning 6 of the 9 individual rounds. Had it not been for a puncture on the final lap of the Inter-Service MTB Championships he would have been the overall Inter-Service champion but had to settle for 4th place overall. In the extreme “Army: Are You Tough Enough” Enduro race Andy was 1st place in the Services Category in the MTB Competition and 2nd Overall against a strong field which included several Elite / Expert civilian competitors".
Sean Childs
Sean ply's his craft on road based events and again 2008 saw him reach new levels which included gaining ranking points for British Cycling Federation road racing. His prowes in time trials still mark him as a force to be reckoned with in the South West district where he his unbeatable. His riding in National Events has given the club recognition at the highest level. At Interservice level Sean remains unbeaten. Sean's drive and commitment extend to developing not only his own skills but also those of his fellow club members. He is an ambassador to the club and RN sport.
Both awards recognise the fact that the riders involved not only compete at the highest level but they also project the image of cycling in the RN RM as a professional serious sport. Their continued presence on the national and interservice scene inspires other riders and motivates younger riders to participate and excell in the sport.
As holders of club colours the riders will be presented with official club ties (not available for general purchase) and their details will be added to the clubs role of honour.
