RNRMCA riders honoured at prestigious RN awards ceremonyIn a ceremony fittingly held onboard Nelson's flagship representatives of RNRMCA were honoured for their sporting achievement throughout 2007. First up were members of the team whose prowess at Time Trialling throughout last season has netted them a bagful of honours at National, Combined Service and Open races.
Representatives of the RNRMCA Time trial team collect their award as Royal Navy Team of the Year 2007. Awarded by Rear Admiral CPR Montgomery CBE the team award was the result of a hard fought contest against other RN sports teams who have excelled at their sport throughout the last season. The teams success is the pinnacle of the Associations triumphs throughout 2007 so whether you were time trialling like a demon or representing the club at Sportives or off road events you can rest assured the teams success is down to the associations continued impetus and forward motion. The award for Female Sportswoman of the year for 2007 was made to RNRMCA member LMA Mhairi Muir. Mhairi's list of accomplishments throughout 2007 and before are many and

varied. Mhairi's first sport was long distance swimming, this transformed to tri-athlon and when she decided she wanted to hone her cycling skills she signed up for the RNRMCA and attended the 2007 training camp. Thereafter she represented the club at both the National 3 up Team Time Trials and the Inter Services Time Trial Championships where she swept the board winning both the 10 and 25 mile events in her first attempt. One to watch for the future Mhairi has great ambition and with continued determination she is sure to succeed.
Regular riders, active racers and even casual observers cannot fail but notice how the RNRMCA has moved forward of late. Instrumental in this movement has been the input from CPO PT Sean Childs whose outright devotion to his sport and the club has led him to many personal victories throughout the last few seasons. Too many to list here the accolades Sean collected throughout 2007 are testament to his hard work and determined effort. When racing he is all machine, focussed on the task at hand. However, it is his ability to switch off the machine and his willingness to help other riders no matter what level they ride at that makes Sean stand out from the crowd. A true personality and great ambassador for the club Sean narrowly missed out on selection this year but his (seemingly) never ending enthusiasm will almost certainly (we hope) see him involved in the club for some time yet.
